Currency Converter — input your values

What does this conversion calculator do?

The currency converter converts an amount between 16 major world currencies, including the US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan and other common currencies. It uses the US dollar as the reference base for every conversion.

Each conversion is shown with both currency symbols, a step-by-step breakdown through US dollars, and a table of the amount in every currency so you can compare at a glance.

Formula and variables

target = amount × rate(to) ÷ rate(from)

Rates are approximate manual reference values, not live market data. Real-time rates require an API and change by the second.

SymbolMeaning
rate(from)Units of the 'from' currency per 1 USD
rate(to)Units of the target currency per 1 USD

Worked example

Convert 100 US dollars into euros.

  1. 100 USD is already in US dollars.
  2. 100 USD × 0.92 (EUR per USD) = 92 EUR.

Answer: 100 USD ≈ 92 EUR at the reference rate.

Tips and common mistakes

Tips

  • Banks and card networks charge a markup on top of the mid-market rate — always check the effective rate you actually get.
  • For quick estimates, the euro and pound are close to 1:1 against the dollar, while the yen and won have very large numbers per dollar.
  • Use this converter for budgeting and comparison, but get a live quote from your bank before making real transfers.
  • Travel cards and airport exchanges usually offer worse rates than local ATMs or online services.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating approximate reference rates as live rates for actual transactions — they can be outdated within minutes.
  • Forgetting that 1 USD = 0.92 EUR means 1 EUR is worth about 1.09 USD, not 0.92 USD.
  • Ignoring the JPY and KRW scale: 155 JPY per USD does not mean the yen is worth more than the euro.

Currency Converter — frequently asked questions

Are these live exchange rates?

No — they are approximate mid-market reference rates for general use. Real-time rates require a live rates API and change constantly throughout the trading day.

How do I convert dollars to euros?

Multiply the dollar amount by the EUR per USD rate. At 0.92 EUR per USD, 100 USD = 100 × 0.92 = 92 EUR.

Why is the exchange rate different at my bank?

Banks and exchange services add a margin to the mid-market rate, plus sometimes a fixed fee. The rate you receive is always less favorable than the reference rate.

Which currency is worth the most?

By value per unit, the British pound, euro and Swiss franc rank highest among the currencies listed. The yen, won and rupees have the lowest value per unit.

What is the mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices in the interbank market — the fairest benchmark rate before any fees or margins.

Can I use this for travel planning?

Yes, as a rough planning tool — but confirm rates with your bank or a live converter shortly before your trip, since rates move daily.
